Shifting Light – Original

Some places get into you early. And never really leave.

Wendy has been coming to this spot since she was a child – the Elephant Rocks at Denmark, those great rounded granite boulders tumbling into William Bay, like they've been there since the beginning of everything, because they basically have. The light does something different here depending on the hour. Gold in the morning. Purple in the shadow. That particular turquoise where the water finds its way between the rocks – nowhere else quite has that colour.

Shifting Light is painted from the inside of it. Not standing back, not taking it in from a distance, but right in amongst the boulders. This is what it feels like to have a place in your bones. To have visited so many times that your hand knows the shapes before your eyes do. The brushwork is loose and energetic – yellows and purples and burnt oranges layered like the light itself is moving across the surface. Because out here, it always is.
